Not sure which card..

I'm thinking of getting a new card or another card, but can't decide which would be best. Alright, right now I have a 19" monitor that supports a 1280 x 1024 max resolution, which I probably won't be upgrading. Along with that I have the XFX 8800GT XXX 512MB. Which of the options below would be the best in my case:

1) Stick with your current card and do not buy anything else.

2) Get another 8800GT XXX and SLI them.

3) Get a 9800GTX.

4) Get a 9800GX2.

I need facts, like, will it be worth getting a 9800GX2 if I'm only going to be running at 1280 x 1024 resolution.

Also, what would be the recommended PSU wattage for this setup:

1 x 7200RPM HDD
1 x 20X DVD Burner
6 x 120MM Fans
1 x Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
1 x ASUS P5Q-E
4 x 1GB DDR800
1 x Creative X-Fi Platinum
1 x Multi-media Card Reader
1 x 9800GTX or 2 x 8800GT XXX

You can't run SLI with that mobo.
A good, reliable PSU >500 watts would work.
I have a Corsair 520HX running my secondary rig, nearly identical to the rig you see in my specs.

A GT 512 would be just about right for that res, GX2 is overkill IMO.

Go sli (get another mobo) with another 8800, forget the 98s, too much $$ 4 too little gain.

Honestly bud, stick with what you have for now and OC it a little bit. As far as PSU goes, anything above a 600w will be fine for ya.

If you absolutely have money that's burning a hole in your pocket, go ahead and grab another 8800GT and SLI them but it's doubtful you'll really notice an extreme performance increase because of the resolution. You'll also need to buy another motherboard. The 9800GTX is a waste of money. The 9800GX2 is a waste of money.

Wait until the 4870X2 comes out would be the best suggestion.

stay with what you have. you can't SLI on that mobo, and for that res it's a waste, tbh. If you wanted a dual card setup, you'd have to go ATi anyways unless you get a new mobo, and getting a new mobo imo = a new PC, so you can wait for nehalem or shanghai.

for that setup listed, though, don't get a 9800GX2, it'll be wasted at that res, and an 8800GT SLI setup will perform close enough to it but will be bottlenecked again by the res... I''d say 700+W to be safe, though, though wattage isn't everything... use the free PSU calculator: http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp for a more reliable estimate though

by the way, welcome to the boards; fill your system specs out so we can help you better, and enjoy your stay
