msi 8800gt 1gb making odd sound.. - Page 2

Thats normal. If its a whining kind of noise then its coming from the power caps on the card. When a card is stressed you will find there is usually more power flowing through the components on the card which can result in a low level whining noise. It can be louder. I find it depends on the brand of card and components used.

This is not a sign of a bad card. This is fairly normal.

The sound is not generally related to a lack of power. If you had a lack of power then running 3d applications would result in corruption or poor gameplay...or it would just fail to start a game.

Yeah using a different spot on the modular set up did nothing.. its a fairly loud squealing sound on the crysis menu and then only slight in game.. same as conan slight in game.

any way to shut it up?

There is no way to shut it up really. Its just the PCB design. You could try a different brand but IMO you are still going to get a card that makes some kind of noise. Like I said its normal and something we have to deal with really.

Well i got it sorted.. you just have to Force V-sync in the Nvid options. then the frames dont go over 60.. so no noise.

it was making the sound the most on the crysis intro screens and menu where its pulling 2xxx fps. so it freeks out.. anyways its sorted. thanks for your help guys
