Whats the best DDR2 RAM Board for gaming

Hi guys,

I've been looking at new boards which will support nVidia's GTX 280, 9800GX, or 8800GTX graphics cards. I prefer to use DDR2 RAM. So I need a board that will support both.

Ideally, I'd also like the board to be P45.

I looked at the Gigabyte GA-EP45-Extreme Intel P45, but does it support the graphics cards above? And does anyone have an ETA for this board?

DFI LPUTX48-T2R Intel X48 DDR2 motherboard looks sweet, but its X48.

X48 vs P45, what would you go with? Is one technology more future-proof than the other or are they just competing chipsets?

If I got the Gigabyte I'd pack it with the following:

- OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Reaper DDR2
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.66GHz 12MB-cache

The Gigabyte would support the above 2, wouldn't it?

Any help would be great

Thanks!

Jp

Those cards will work in any PCI-E x16 slot in any motherboard. Now if you plan to run 2 in SLI, you will have to get an NVIDIA chipset board.

Go with an ASUS, Gigabyte, DFI or Abit board P45 chipset board.

As for future proof, both the x48 and P45 will be replaced at the same time when Nehalem is released, so pick the x48 if you want to run 2 ATI cards in Crossfire, and pick the P45/P35 if you want to only run a single NVIDIA or ATI card.

As for your question about the Gigabyte board supporting the Quad and ram, yes it will.

Wicked, I am not looking for Sli or Crossfire. So that Gigabyte looks sweet. Anyone any ideas on the ETA?
