Was Broken or just bad luck?

I build my PC about 3-4 years ago. DFI-Lanparty-something, Geforce 6600 GT, 2x512meg ram, forgot what processor i had... Decided to update it last summer, bought a gforce 8800 GTS-640meg , and 2x1gig rams sticks.. 2.2ghz duel core processor. Maxtor Hard drive

It worked well for a couple months, then i couldnt boot windows anymore, wasnt recognizing hard drive. On the bootscreen when it would identify the IDE cables and sata stuff, it would go really slow and was a hit or miss if it found it. So i got a new hard drive (Seagate), and issue was still there, so it had to be the MOBO, so i bought a crappy jetway for $50. It worked for a month or so, and then the same issue, so i bought another hard drive this time staying away from Maxtor/Seagate (didnt know Seagate was with maxtor at the time i bought the seagate) and went with WD. Didnt work...

A few months go by.. i was bored today, i had ordered a MOBO on Newegg, once again another cheap $50 one. I had to take my old MOBO out, but before that i would test it... and of course it fails... Since i have it out... i wana test my old DFI again... dono why... but tried it... and it doesnt even power up the WD drive. So i try the 2 others and same issue how it recognizes it slowly if any, but doesnt even boot. So i unplug the power to the HD while im looking at the SATA slot in BIOS how it doesnt see anything, and i plug the WD in, Instantly shuts the power down. I turn it back on and boom works. No issues. I have installed windows vista 32x, updating it right now and everything seems to be working great.

Ohh when i was playing around with both MOBO's trying to get it to work i tried the other SATA slots.

*** happened?

Mrzev, I have to ask this but I'm assuming you tried different SATA/IDE cables?

Good luck

I had 2 power supplies crap out on me in my old rig. The second time it was this Rycon something or other 650W that this old IBM guy (aren't they all) at a local PC shop sold me, when the stock enilight wouldn't even power my GPU. That thing was the reason I bought this new machine earlier than otherwise. When I installed a new DVD drive to do some backup to reformat, I hit the switch on it and it flashed power to my whole system and after that it wouldnt post. I just set it aside and got a new one and haven't dug into it sense, but I'm pretty sure fans shouldnt move when you turn that switch off, and the exhaust fan on the PSU should work . . .

Moral of the story is, the power supply is probably the most important part of your system because it can ruin the rest of it. Get a good one from the best company you can find and get a little more wattage than you need.

Same power supply. I even bought new SATA cables back then heh. I have no clue. I have patched windows, installed a few games, played a few games and its working great.

... Too late to cancel order on the MOBO i just bought... =( its an open box purchase, so i might just return it saying its DOA.
