GPU or MB Problem?

ASrock Dual Sata2 OR 7800GS (agp) issue?

Basically the follwing happens...
1. Install XP (tried SP2 & SP3)
2. Install The motherboard drivers
(ULi Lan - USB 2.0 - ULi PCi to AGP - CPU Stuff)
3. Install the 7800GS drivers
(Tried Forceware Versions 93, 94, 169, 175 Gforce)

NOW 1 of 2 things happen after stage 3....
A- Get a black screen durring install of the graphics cards drivers
(the sound you get when windows detects a new peice of hardware)
B- INstalls driver fine, but when rebooting it freezes just before the login page comes up...

Tried the above several times on clean installs with and without my OC's setup.
When rebuilding my PC i have ALWAYS done the above in that order and it has always worked great!...

DO a fresh install again...
IF you miss out installing the ULi PCi to AGP driver
(i have tried 2 different versions of this driver as well!)
ANY of the above Forware drivers loads fine and windows boots up in its correct resolution....

BUT...i am getting at least a 20-30 FPS drop in CS-Sourse
AND horrible scores in Aqua Benchmarks and World In COnflit Benchmarks!...
Its gone from being able to play WIC very well to hardly getting through the bennchmark!

NOw after doing the above and trying different drivers with different setups...etc etc...

It can't be drivers as i have tried them all and downloaded newer/older versions...
Its not the OC settings...as its doing it both when OC and not OC...(CPU that is)
Using the same BIOS as before...
Its not a OS issues or SP issue...(done about 10 installs of XP already!)
Only hardware change has been the CPU,
BUT it was doing the same thing even on the old CPU!

i have come down to the follwing...
7800GS problem?
ASRock AGP Port?
The WHOLE MB?

Have you checked GPU-Z to make sure all the clocks are as they should be. Also have you tried a CMOS reset, my old ASRock board mysteriously lost its IDE controller but a CMOS reset fixed it.

Running the GPU-Z shows all the correct info...

The card works souly the forware drivers...
It runs CS-Source (with VSYNC off) at 120 FPS when using Rivatuner OR forware regedit entry...

BUT only when the ULi PCi to AGP driver is not installed!
you can really tell the difference though when the ULi PCi to AGP is not installed....it just stuggles with everything!....
i was getting 150 FPS+ last month on the same game using the same software WITH the ULi PCi to AGP installed along with the forceware drivers...

That ULi PCi to AGP is one of the main drivers you MUST have installed in order for the Graphics card to work properly before you even touch the forware/nvidia drivers...(as you will prob know yourself)

SO why now has it stopped working when i have not changed how install the software?! - its gota be hardware!?

is the ULi PCi to AGP driver souly for AGP grpahics card use?
or
will the same thing happen if using a PCIE card?

i am in process of getting a new grpahics card...BUT i am holding off ordering one JUST incase its the actual motherboard thats the issue and not my currect graphics cards!

I'm not sure regarding the pci-e card. Ummm...is there only 2 revisions of that driver available? What happens if you install th AGP drivers after the forceware.

That seems weird. Have you re-downloaded the drivers to check that they are not in some way corrupted when downloading. I'm guessing that the pci-e lane would be unaffected so you may be okay with a new card. Can you stretch to buying a new/second-hand mobo as well? I wouldn't touch another ASRock board again after my last one crapped out.

tried the original drivers...
a set downloaded at work...
a set downloaed at home...
all same thing!

The A8N32-SLI Deluxe has caught my eye...
BUT...trying to get a hold of a NEW s939 board is bloody hard!
and the ones you do find are from halfway across the world and £££...
thats for any of the decent s939 boards!

this "small" upgrade was supposed to be "small"...
never happens!...
new processor was the only thing i really wanted to change...just to keep things going along nicely!...

Hmm. Can you borrow a pci-e card from anyone?
Thats the trouble - you look for a new mobo - then you see a new CPU then you need new RAM - it doesn't stop .

I have just got off the phone with my mate!

he has an ATI 3870 X2 1GB still in its box in his flat!
He cani use the card cause its TOO big for his case!
he also does not have a PSU with the right conectors on it either!

so..getting that tonight to play with!
BUT..after reading the reviews of the 3870 X2...
seems to be overpriced and a bit of an under performer!
a lot of money for something that seems to be on par with the cheaper 8800 gts 512!?
just the vibe i am getting whenreading the reviews...
BUT...i suppose ANYTHING will be better than my current 7800gs AGP>,,,lol
