...or an 8 series card at that. Since the 9 series is a revision which performs near to the 8 series you should stick with either of them. (Unless you're die-hard and own a g80 GTS)

at this point the price to performance ratio of the G92 vs. the 280GTX is heavily in favor of the G92. As was mentioned previously, unless you are running at obscene resolutions, the G92 8series and 9 series are probably a better solution.

Regardless of how it preforms, I think the biggest problem people have with the GTX280 is its price. If it were say $499, I think most would be saying how it triumphs over the GX2. I guess nVidia were too ambitious in their design as the pricing [shows both implicit and explicit costs] is far too high considering the performance AND price of the product it is replacing as the enthusiast product.
Also the fact that apparently the die is as big as 2 G92 card dies, or something along the lines of that.

No it's not that big. I think G92 is about 330 m2, when GT200 is <600. Still a huge GPU tho.

I like the architecture, nVidia have made some hell of improvements over G80/G92 cores. And the approach "beyond gaming" is quite interesting to me, seeing how CUDA and PhysX develop lately.

Hope they will lower the price to speculated 500$ with the ATI HD 4 series release or i'll end up getting GTX 260, which is ~18% slower and 45% cheaper, thus poses much better orice/performance ratio.

I know vantage is the new better bench, but doesn't anyone run these dang cards in 3DMark06. Just so I have an idea of what I am looking at. I don't have Vista therefore, no vantage. Grrrr.

Im thinking of buying a 9800GX2, would you 9800GX2 owners justify it?

At 25 X 16 and 19 X 12 in some games, the 280 will provide smoother gameplay.

150$ for minimal gains....you be the judge! I'd wait it out till the die shrink to be honest.
