Can you list the specs of the system-
CPU
RAM - Speed & amount
Graphics card - ATI/Nvidia
Hard Drive - IDE or SATA

To allow others to help you in the future fill in your specs here

I thinks its a P4 Dual Core.
3 gb RAM 2- 512 and 2 - 1 GB. PC 4200
8800 GT
I think HDD is SATA. It has a little red cord with lim black connectors on each end.

That would be SATA. Just try this for me - try booting with only one stick of 512mb RAM - different types/speeds of RAM don't always play nice together.
Also really we need to know the exact model of the P4 as its a bit hard to find a compatible board otherwise.

I am back at work now. Will try in a few hours. I have had this RAM in this system. It has been working like this for months. I will try anything. I will let you know what I come up with. I will also try to find the exact type of P4.

Ummm...I don't know. Besides ddr3 is not quite ready for mainstream yet IMO. I know this will make it kind of pointless you buying the other PC in the first place, but I could probably suggest a new mobo and dual-core CPU with some new RAM for less than that X38 board, which would overclock great.

There you go -
Pentium E2180 Dual Core - Should out-perform the pentium D at stock and should overclock to 3ghz.

Gigabyte GA-EP35_DS3L - Great board for overclocking, very reliable, good quality.

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) - This RAM is great price-performance lately and overclocks nicely - Good warranty, good quality.

TOTAL - $219.97

Still you may want to try to ressurect the old mobo first.

This one is a long shot. Unplug the PC, switch off PSU (if you have a switch). Press the power button a few times. Take out the CMOS battery, Wait for 10-20mins. Replace the CMOS battery, plug back and switch on PSU. Try turning it on again.
That generally works better than a CMOS reset when things go bad, so its worth a try, If that doesn't work you may need a new mobo.

I bought this board. And this memory. It will be delivered today. It will be a slight upgrade from what I was running. It should support my CPU.
