Voltage Question....Please Help....

Thread Starter
For two weeks i'm trying to get this cpu stable at least at 3.8....so....after some researching i found that max voltage is 1.45...i really don't wanna go over 1.4v.....so....i've set the voltage in bios at 1.35(some people can oc till 3.8 at stock voltage)....so a 1.35 i think that it could be enough...right now orthos is running.....so the cpu is at full load.....but in cpu-z the voltage shown is 1.28-1.29......how come????Is this normal to drop the voltage at full load???If it is normal.....shall i set the bios voltage at 1.40-1.43 to drop at 1.35-1.38 to be stable???I really wanna get it stable at least for 3-4 months lifetime....Thanks in advance...

Yes, vdroop and vdrop are common. If you need to, adjust the voltage in the Bios but becareful not to set it too high as it will idle at the voltage set in the bios.

yup its normal. becarful though 3.8 should be well easy on an e8400 with far less. i had my e8200 stable at that. trying to work back up to it lol long story.
Youll prob need the n/b up near 1.4v
and depending on ram looking at it that could be holding you back. being fairly slow as it is. dont give it any more volts than needed.

DID i see you dont have after market cooling on that chip!!!!!!!! what are your temps be very wary ok. they dont have temal issue but on stock cooling at that speed you could fry your chip.

Ah.....so....let say i'll set a 1.38 in bios...it will vdrop at 1.31-1.32....it should be oke this voltage.....btw.....i have orthos running for 25 minutes....the temp is 59 degrees....the thing is that my northbridge is very close to the cpu.....and it is a fanless cooling.....so it gets REALLY HOT....the northbridge i mean....the voltage at the northbridge is set to 1.56 i think...so.....the questions.....the cpu temp 60-65 degrees is oke???And can i set my nb voltage even higher???Thanks....

Just be sure you don't go over 1,325V with your CPU.
It will cause your CPU to degrade. You should google something like "e8400 degrading" to get some more information.

But with that as a maximum voltage in mind, you should be safe. Increase your voltage in the BIOS bit by bit and check CPUz if your idle and load voltage won't go over that value. (Use a program like Orthos or Prime)
