OCZ Vendetta 2 stock fan: any good? - Page 2

I just replaced the stock fan on my Vendetta 2 with a Ultra Kaze 2000RPM 87CFM fan and to be honest it didn't lower my temps as far as I can tell, need to run prime and do some testing though...

Also make sure you now have enough exhaust/airlfow to suck all that hot air out the back. It made a 5C temp diff for me when I upgraded my exhaust fan...the Ultra Kaze was putting out too much air that did not have anywhere to go for the most part. Good luck!

Move your ram to the other 2 DIMMS away from your cpu heatsink, that may alleviate the problem. If not, just mod 2 80mm fans to blow down on your ram...just as good and may give you more room too.

You and I have very similar rig specs other than the cpu/ram so I am curious to see where you end up at...especially when you get around to OCing the cpu/gpu...I got notes O plenty should you need any advice!

Keep us posted!
I didn't have any problems mounting due to the NB... only the expected difficulty with getting the 4 pins pushed in since they are pretty much underneath that huge HS, and I bother removing the whole MB from the case (I did, of course, unplug all cables, and RAM... tight squeeze, but it was enough).

As for moving the RAM, I've been considering it, but since the DIMM slots for running in dual channel are the alternate slots (eg. 1+3 or 2+4) I figured that will only give me about 1cm more room, and probably somewhat negligible. I figured what you said, if I can get in some proper case fans, they'll cause the CPU fan to pull air across the RAM. Not to mention the RAM has a good heatsink system on it already, so the additional RAM fans are probably overkill unless I'm going to try for 4-4-4-12 @ 1066 @ 2.4V (which I do not plan to do).

As for my OC efforts, I am currently trying my best, but am not quite achieving satisfactory results (yet). I'm really pushing to reach at least 3.33GHz, and am hoping to achieve 3.5, but so far I'm having difficulty keeping anything stable over 3. Tried all the usual tweaking of different combo's of multi, FSB, Vcore. Even went ahead and did the VDROOP pencil mod last night, and I'm still fighting to keep it stable at 3.33. Last attempt locked up at around 40 mins of ORTHOS. I upped the VCore this morning, and left it running while I'm here at work. Hoping to come home to it still running, but at this point I'm expecting to find Windows frozen.

I've already OC'd the GPU to 620/1000. I plan on tweaking that a bit more when I finally reach a stable CPU OC.

If you can provide any advice, I'd be more than grateful. I have a thread which somewhat documents my efforts so far: http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...-specific.html

Cheers.

Even the high CFM slipstreams will have issues pushing that air?

If anyone reads this: since I cannot install a 120MM exhaust fan with my current case, would it be a good option to have my HSF set up so that the fan pulls air up, into my PSU, which then exhausts? If I do that, I could keep my RAM fans installed without obstructing my CPU fan.

How well will this cooler work on the Q6600 for overclocking? Will it get me to 3.4 at least?

I am assuming your exhasut is 80mm based? Then get a fan shroud like I did (worked wonders on temps):

...and read my thread on cheap mods that work:

http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling...ally-work.html

Also!!!!!! ---> Be very careful how high you go on ram volts...the 680i and 680i LT have been known to eat ram for breakfast with anything over 2.3v. There are several threads relating to this in the eVGA forum.

Still yes, but less so. The Slipstreams are great fans, I use one as my exhaust (as seen in pic above) since the airflow is free (no grillz/filters). The fan blade is not the best for dealing with back pressure. Instead, I use S-Flex Fs for intake and the Ultra Kaze for the heatsink. Here are some tests I did and results (note it was for the 1600 rpm version of the Slipstream though):

http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling...-best-cpu.html (look at the charts)

As for noise, the UK 3000 was overkill for me, the UK 2000 was just perfect. The diff between the 2000 and the 3000 was only about 1-2C less at full blast and I am not willing to put up with that day & night. I run the UK 2000 at around 1650 rpm via a fan controller and it cannot be heard outside the case, max temps Orthos load small FFTs is 47C.

Yeah, I definitely have no intention on taking my RAM above 2.3 (right now at 2.2). I might try the setup I suggested above just to see if it helps my temps. Otherwise, I just checked your thread, and it inspired me into thinking if I decide to not use the RAM fans for the RAM, I could possibly use them as additional cooling elsewhere... perhaps for my GPU? Any suggestions?

Well, I am glad that I inspired someone today. Thanks! Yes, you could use it for your GPU. Post some pics of your computer innards when you get a chance and let us see what we gots to work with. I'll take a look at your other post on your OC a bit later, I better get some work done today before the boss gets on my case.

Thanks for the info Qbert, I did read the fan comparison before posting, hence the question about the higher CFM fan that I have. Great article btw, thanks for that.

I searched for the UK 2000 on newegg, but nothing turned up. I may hold off for replacing that fan for now.
