Just went from Vista to XP :(

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

This isn't a Vista bashing thread...infact, I really like vista, it's extremely well polished, and not as buggy as people say. Really had to downgrade, because I only have 2GB RAM, how do you guys find vista with 2GB ram??
My brother's laptop (has a 2.4GHz C2D) has 2GB of RAM and it's noticeably faster in Vista with Aero than my laptop with a 2.4Ghz Turion X2 GE with 4GB of RAM and Aero disabled. I think with your setup you should be good with Vista.

I ran vista premium(64bit) with 2 gigs for a while. Would do everything fine except crysis. That game would freeze up for bits at a time.

However I could play COD4 just fine and all the others like CSS and variouse other games that werent so resource hungry.

As far as everyday apps you will be fine unless your doing some major video crunching or something.
If you have to do you have a usb drive. Use that to help speed it up a bit.

I started with Vista and 2g of ram. I had absolutely no problem with it. It ran fast, and my games ran fine. I'd miss the start/search function if i downgraded

I've been using Vista64 for about 6 months now. During that time, I've used 2GB and 4GB. I used 2GB for about 2 months. I can say, without a doubt, 100%, 4GB is noticeably faster.

I upgraded from 2gb to 4gb of RAM and did notice a difference. That said, 2gb was by no means slow. If you liked Vista, I'd give it another shot if I were you. There are quite a few tweak guides floating around these days that make things speed up dramatically.

One that particularly helped my boot time was enabling all of my processors upon bootup and selecting "no GUI boot" in msconfig.

Just shut down all the processes you don't need (and there are probably lots). Good guides to be found via google for that.

If you have a DDR2 board there's no excuse not to have 4GB. These DIMMs are the price of potato chips now.
