Just went from Vista to XP :( - Page 2

I ran Vista Ultimate 64bit with 2GB for over half a year and never ran into any issues with it. It ran perfectly fine. Vista manages memory much better than XP.

A week ago my Umbra's (sig) 4x1GB Crucial Ballistix memory died - again - and i was forced to use my sisters laptop to keep me busy...

my sisters laptop runs Vista with 1GB of ram, and intel duo processor clocked around 1.7Ghz if my memory is right.

It runs vista pretty well. especially after i installed Service Pack 1 along with the recent performance update. coupled this with a good registry clean, chipset, BIOS and whatnot....i was very surprised. i would've been quite happy using that laptop to game too (*shock* did i just say that??) but obviously for the games i run that just wouldn't be possible on that hardware.

I fixed Umbra this morning - i received two GSkill modules in the post (2x2GB modules) i love how they are so nicely presented in that well designed box...i also like the case badge, and the neat blue heatspreaders on the modules.....hope they prove more reliable compared to what was previously in there....

The broken Ballistix i sent back to Crucial; that lifetime warranty is some useful stuff . i intend to sell the replacements on ebay as soon as i recieve them.

2GB is the sweet spot. 1GB isn't as good, and 512MB sucks. 2GB is fine, though.

Thats because of that 2.4 C2D

I been running Vista since when the near the beginning of RC1 and have been running 2 rigs in all my rigs. I played alot of games and notice no lagging. I also multi-task and still notice no slow down.

I'm running Vista Business on my desktop, which was running only 2GB memory. I just recently upgraded to 4GB, and I haven't yet noticed a significant difference, if any.

I also built my parents a computer on 2GB using Vista Home Basic, and it runs fantastic. No complaints on either.

I think the OP has over-exaggerated his thoughts over Vista's demands. 2 GBs of RAM is fine! But the more the merrier.

I'm running into problems on Vista 64bit with only 2GB of memory. I'm often running up to 1900mb's of RAM used when playing games. I need another 2GB. 64bit accesses more memory at a time.

I noticed that Vista was noticeably faster then XP with only 512MB of RAM on my old laptop.
Ach, I saw the opposite. Vista Home Basic on 512mb was a nightmare. My mate had the exact same model of laptop, but running XP home and it was much better.
