Just bought E6850

Hey all,

I just won an E6850 on Ebay for £70 (~$140). Its used, but comes with a 30 day return warranty.

I wanted something a bit better than my E6750 which doesn't overclock very well and runs quite warm.

What overclocks can I expect with it compared to my current chip?

Yeah, but my E6750 doesn't seem to run as well as others. Its more of a Netburst that a C2D G0 stepping

I agree, they're very similar chips. If you want to see a major change, it would seem logical to get a significantly different chip...

Could've gotten a E7200 for that price. The chips should clock similarly, but the E7200 (should) run cooler, and (possibly) clock higher.

That is true. However the E7200 has less L2 cache, 1066 FSB and AFAIK a lower multiplier.

I recently got a E6850 to see how far I could push it. The jump from stock 3.0 to 3.7 was done under 1.4v. The jump from 3.7-3.9ghz took a lot more. I tried 4.0ghz at 1.5v but it was not stable and I didn't feel like pushing more voltage for an extra 100mhz. So I settled on 3.9ghz @ 1.488v, which under prime95 hit 62-63c.

I've owned a few E6750's, some being mild overclockers but I had one that was a champ. It did 3.9ghz and 4.0ghz at 1.37v, I really can't understand why I sold that!? lol but I helped a buddy out, so it was for a good cause.

One of the limits of the E6750 is the multiplier, with the E6850 you can remove that block and push it right on up if your MB doesn't like high FSB.

Well 1mb less cache isn`t that much...The FSB is awesome cause you easily raise it to 333, or 400...Low multiplier..? AFAIK higher brings more performance...not higher multiplier...
also 45nm vs 65nm...mmmh
