What's the big deal about Firefox?

Thread Starter
Now that FF3 is out, everyone is going crazy. I'm wondering what's the big deal? How is it better than IE7?

I just read over the feature list (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/features/) and the only thing that sounded interesting was the built in download manager. And did they ever start encrypting the stored passwords? I remember my mom stumbling across the wide open plain text file when she tried FF some time ago.

And please refrain from "FF FTW!" or "FF is so epic!" and the like...just interested to see why everyone's so hot on it.

I guess I could just install it and see for myself...maybe I'll do that tonight after work. Worst case, I just uninstall it if I don't like it...

It is the fastest, most secure browser. And I love it, I would recommend installing it, you won't be disappointed.

FF3 is faster than IE7. And has a lot of plugins that are very useful.

IE7 is crazy fast for me - no more than a second or two after entering a web address, the entire page is loaded...of course this all depends on internet traffic as well, but it still seems really fast.

And how is FF more secure? Do they do weekly updates like MS does for IE? Seems like it would be *less* secure since the source code is right out there for anyone to exploit.

Also besides being faster (long long time user here) it is also more secure especially in the beginning.

Most malware, spyware and the sorts are written to infiltrate and get past IE so it slams against a wall when met with FF.

Also it is an orange icon and it had tabs long before IE copied it and I love my in browser spell check which it had first also...

FF is faster, more secure, better interfaces, better tabbed browsing, better bookmark managing, better, cleaner interface, and it uses less system resources.

I would never in a second think about using IE unless I had to. Firefox is among the first things I download whenever I get on a new computer.

Also, you can use a plugin called Adblock Plus, that does what it's name suggests. You can block all adds, or even images and flash players if you want.
