How is AOC?

Thread Starter
I know a bunch of people got the game the first week it came out. I'm just wondering how you guys like the game so far. I've been keeping my distance because I don't want to risk $50.00 on a game that doesn't work out or that I'm not going to like. Other then that, are the buddy accounts available yet?

For a MMORPG (I think it's one), its not bad. I've heard some good reviews about it.

It is great fun.
I have 5 toons all in their 20's... all have totally different skill-sets and play-styles.
Today, though, I saw my first gold-seller-spam which is a great shame.

Compared to "the other" online fantasy game it is brilliant, imho. There is very little grinding atm, as most xp tends to come from questing. And there are TONS of quests! There are a few bugs, but they are doing a great job of fixing/patching. Classes are a LITTLE unbalanced, but, this is early days! There are already plenty of guild-settlements, which is nice.

I am enjoying it much more than I enjoyed WoW, but I do not see why crafting only begins at lv40?? You can begin harvesting @ lv20, however.

The downtime for the servers is done at a sensible time (4am til 8am) which is also cool.

Levelling is quite fast, which although nice, does lend me to think that they are gonna have to get an expansion out REAL soon!

The graphics are, for an mmorpg, TRULY STUNNING!

The voice-acting (which atm is mainly during lvs 1 - 20 but that is going to change according to the devs) is spot-on.

So far, at least on my server (Hyrkania), the kids have not moved in; therefore there is a helpful and friendly community. I have only seen the term *noob* used once in 2.5 weeks.

The lore and backstory for your character is very good, and will only get better imho.

(please forgive any silly typo... I have a broken finger )

I posted in another topic about AoC.

I played during the early release and was super excited about this game. I started with a Assassin and got it to 55 then gave up. I play on pvp servers and being level 55 with the highest dps class of the game you should be able to kill stuff with ease... Wrong. I was being killed by players 10 levels lower than I with little effort. Pull 2 mobs it was iffy, 3? kill 1 then run! Well upon reading the Assassin class has major problems with it.... So I retired it and started a Tempest of Set (Basically a priest/mage/warrior) It is very Over powered! It is great fun! I have it at level 80 now (max) and the game is just lacking. They pretty much left out quests for 53-60, then after 75, it's group, group, group. The game maker bragged about how you could solo to 80, sure but you have to grind your way there, and above 70 your looking at over a million xp per level and it goes up each level.......

You have to grind a lot of the game, and being a ToS which has AoE damage it's rather easy, but gets old. I thought get to 80 then the fun starts. Right? Wrong... The server I am on has a lot of 80's so it's not the fact that I have out leveled most people. It's constant crashing, bugs, they ruin the game overall. This game has a lot of potential to be good, but as of now there is nothing giving me that "OMG I need to play"

If you decide to pick it up I would wait for a month or two maybe by then they will have the headaches worked out. As of now I canceled my account. Hopefully by the time I get the itch again I'll get my email for the open beta for Warhammer

It's had a very solid launch MMO-wise. As some of the posters have stated above, the game has it's problems...but it's still fun. I'm not sure if you had played WoW when it launched, but the quality is about the same...

They have a lot of balance issues and issues with stability, but for the most part, Funcom is doing a decent job ironing stuff out. Only thing that I really can truly say really gets on my nerves is when they change major things and don't document them in the patch notes. Go read the class boards (or the VNboards on IGN) and you'll see what I mean. FC seems to like nerfing classes and not telling them about it. Full of lame, IMO.

I played Anarchy Online (the first mmo from funcom) for a few years and have seen the player nerfing/ unbalanced classes first hand many times already.

Funcom is having many of the same problems as when AO came out and already making the same mistakes of overpowering certain classes and making others too weak and not worth using ingame(from reading this).

After my experience with AO and reading about other people's problems with AoC(same problems I had with AO), I suggest just flat out staying away from any mmo made by funcom. I was thinking about trying AoC but after reading about the same crap happening again there is no way funcom gets anymore of my money.

I went from playing WoW for over a few years to this game. The Graphics are amazing and the gameplay is pretty good but theres still A LOT of problems that Funcom needs to fix, especially once you get out of the 1-20 leveling area.

Huge problem with memory leaks and out of memory errors. Some people can't play the game on a top of the line rig while others are playing it with a mediocre rig. I've been getting the memory errors but I got lucky in that I only get it after an hour and a half of playing.. Supposedly theres a fix if you have 3 or 4 GB, but theres no reason you should NEED that much lol

Check out the tech section on their forums:
http://forums.ageofconan.com/forumdisplay.php?f=28

Once the bugs get fixed (hopefully soon), it should be a pretty good game, but like the previous poster said, if you're a hardcore MMO player, don't expect this game to uphold to your expectations. So far funcom has not been doing a very good job fixing the bugs, however, so I wouldn't depend on that.

Leveling past 50 is a grind fest from what I hear. The end game instances haven't really been tweaked yet so there's not a whole lot of loot. Many of the quests are bugged, many of the monsters are bugged. I mean its still playable, but not always enjoyable. The game HAD potential, but until Funcom does something and steps up this game is not going to last, and most of the higher levels (or at least the ones in my guild) are talking about quitting when Warhammer comes out etc..

If $50 is not too much for you, I say go ahead and try it out. I still like the game, but sometimes the errors just get annoying. I don't regret buying it though, since its just such a beautiful game and can be fun at times.
