I'm not surprised. ATI really pulled off something big IMO. If a single 4870 is competitive with the GTX260, than two in CrossFire will absolutely slaughter the 280 for about $50 cheaper (assuming ~$300 price point). Then you also have the HD4870X2 with the rumors of a shared memory interconnect still floating around. It should be insane.

I'm going with the 48xx series as they have the better priceerformance ration ($650 f---ing for a damn card?!?!? even with price drops that's outrageous. and the performance increase over the 9800's copies is not even worth the $$$)

The 48xx series should kick ass!!!! and why not support a company than can and will give nvidia a run for their $?

Also, the 48xx series has more to offer. it brings more to the plate (less $, GDDR5, less power consumption, smaller die, less heat)

I highly doubt I'm upgrading any time soon, but if I do, it'll be either another G80 GTS in SLI or a G92 GTS.

I agree 110% with you man, but the 4870 being delayed again just sucks, not ATi's fault its just there is not enough DDR5 yet to mass produce these cards

I think I am going to wait about a month after the 4870's come out to make a definite decision on what I am going to go with. I don't want any pre benchmark rumor hype that could cloud my decision. I will make up my mind after there have been a few other guinnea pigs before me I will prolly end up with two of the 4870's but two or three 9800gtx doesn't sound too bad either.
