It took them long enough lol

Quote:
June 17, 2008 - Blizzard has released patch 1.12 for Diablo 2 and along with it is a no-CD update. No longer will you have to insert a CD to play the eight year old RPG, better late than never. Patch 1.12 also resets the game's ladder. Here are more detailed patch notes from Blizz Planet:

Yeah I just got this earlier today for the ladder reset. I bet they hid something in the ladder play too lol.

Supposedly this is going to be the last patch for diablo2.

Ahh geez... I wish I still had that CD. It was a good game when I played it, but the CD drive always tried to compete with the in-game sound. Nice that they have a No-CD patch - after I stopped playing and lost the CD 5 years ago

So does this mean it's freeware, since no key is required? Therefore it would be a legal torrent?

Cool, talk about coincidence, I just found my copy of diabloII hidden on a shelf and figured once I get my computer back up I will play it.

I don't think that is the case. The CD is not required to be inserted to play the game, that does not mean that you don't need a CD key.

Furthermore, the CD key does not constitute the license between you and the software owner. It is simply a "proof of purchase" and a way to curb piracy.

I don't see anything about Blizzard changing the license terms for the product.

Good question. I would assume that you would have to have the game installed and registered to download the patch because you can't just DL it right? I don't remember if you had to download them off the site or it just did it in game, haven't played in sooooooooooo long.

Well couldn't someone argue with Blizzard that they have "lost" their CD key and with a No-CD patch they do not need to have proof of ownership?

You still need the key to play on Battle.net.
