Price-Performance

GX2. If you absolutely don't have a graphics card right now, I'd recommend gx2.

If you want to spend the extra money on a gtx 280 right now, and hope it improves ; by all means go for it. The price will come down eventually, just like it's been coming down with the 9000 series, and it did with the 8800's. They usually make improvements on the cards within the first few months they come out. If I could find the right model # of 8800 gtx, I'd buy that right now It is a rough time to make this call !!

Good luck

yeah, i just bought a gtx280...
i figured, ah what the hell, might as well spend that extra money for the evga ftw edition so it will match the 750i ftw (maybe not so smart now, but seemed good at that time)
so now im down -$800 (700 + tax + shipping)

i was orig going to buy the evga 9800gx2 ko after the gtx280 lowered the prices a bit, instead i went, "hmm just for a couple more dollars, i'd be able to have a card the day it comes out"

so really, it's your call

i've never used sli and also i've read about how sli only gives an 80% increase sometimes and, as mentioned earlier in this thread, the gx2 forces 2 graphics card into one pci slot, so im also kinda playing it safe by buying the evga gtx280 ftw
the pny gtx280 is cheaper, and you could also just get a gtx260 for a smaller performance boost over the 9800gx2 (i've only read reviews and benchmarks about the 9800 series, never owning one, so dont take my word for it)
remember, it's your decision, if u really feel that you want it, then get it

Why? The GX2 outdoes the thing, it's competing with the 280, why would the 260 even be a reasonable recommendation?

The best thing I can think of is buy the GX2 now, wait a couple months until the 280 has better drivers and the price is not much more than the GX2 now and use your step up. Obviously you need to buy a brand that offers the step up but still.

I'm in your boat, I have nothing and really have no clue what to do. I may go that route if the new ATI coming out next week bombs.
