Possible Build ideas?

Alright, starting to think about breaking my beloved ties to good old 939 here...

Anyways, I have my case, psu....well, everything except for CPU, Mobo, and Ram.
I am Canadian, so unless Newegg changed their Anti-Canuck policy (*insert expletive*) I gotta go through NCIX or Tiger Direct, or other.

I know I don't need a quad, so I am looking for a solid OC value on a dual core.

Mobo: I do know that I am probably going to be sticking with nVidia GPUs, but I don't know if I am going to go SLi or not. Why? I don't play Crysis, and I'm only using a single 21" monitor. No intention to go dual screen either.

Ram: I don't mind paying extra for good quality ram. But just the same, I don't think I need to go out and get the latest crazy fast, crazy timings either.

Overall, I think I'm looking at a mid-range pricepoint. Honestly, I'm stealing money from my car fund for this most likely, so budget technically isn't an issue...rationality, and reasonable usefulness is.

Thanks in advance to you crazy knowledgeable people!

seeing you dont need SLI, i believe P35 board will do well for you. so i think this DFI board should do well when coupled with a E8400 processor. however if you have some extra budget you can also consider the new Gigabyte P45 board.

as for RAM, i think this set of 2x2GB G.Skill PQ should do fine at OC without breaking the wallet.

that's about it... hopefully this will be useful to you.

ps: the prices are from NCIX as you said that's the place you will be shopping for. Also if you dont mind the smaller cache size, the E7200 is also a very good OCer that can further lower the cost.

Thanks Kit, that sounds good!

I was looking at the Intel processors, and one made me wonder:
To save a bit of money, but keeps the same 6mb cache, is the E8200 somewhat equivalent on OC capability as the E8400?

Take a look at the guide in my sig. It might be helpful.
I would look at a E7200. It is a great chip. I had one for a build for someone and it got to 3.8GHz. For the money you cant beat it.
As far as mobo: The DFI dark is a great board.
RAM: G.Skill 2x2GB 1000MHz for $80 on Newegg

Unfortunately the 8x multiplier on the e8200 does limit the OC a little bit. In reality though, it's not likely to be that much, maybe 200-400 Mhz at most IMO.

Alright, thanks for the clarification!

And mortimersnerd: Newegg still doesn't ship to Canada do they? But thanks for the suggestion on the E7200
