UGH Sigmatel is a pain in the ass.

Ok I've had this mobo since January and since day one sound card drivers were a pain in the ass. I had already knew sigmatel were crap but when it comes to finding drivers and installing them, its insane. The sound drivers that come on the mobo disc always fail to install. I go to sigmatel, intel, and dell(since they have drivers for my audio card) and non of them work. I also try the add new hardware program in windows and that doesn't work. When I finally give windows then decides "hey we feel bad for you, so how about we use windows to install the drivers automatically for you?"

To top that off when ever i install a new program, my sound drivers mysteriously uninstall its self leaving me with no sound going through that whole process described above. With windows just randomly installing the drivers on its own in the end randomly.

So now to avoid any future headaches, I need a standalone sound card for xp that will hopefully be compatible with windows 7(if it works in vista it should work in 7 right? or rebuilding of code kills the compatibility?) I was thinking of getting one of these since it cost only like 18 dollars with my discount.

I don't need the latest and greatest since I'm not an audiophile and my music is streamed to my 360 over my home theater surround sound. I do play games how ever so i probably would benefit from going with this one. I don't know my discount with that but it might be about 40 or 50 bucks. As for the speakers I got, they are some harmon kardon speakers that I got with a dell computer about 6 years that happen to do their job.

Either way I just don't want to deal with sigmatel anything. Too much of a headache and run around just to get some sound.
