Torrent help

Thread Starter
How come I keep losing connection every 10 minutes or so when I am downloading a torrent? Like it would be running at 100kb+ then it will go to 0kb and start over after 10 minutes or so. How do I fix this?

I do believe such topic is against the TOS.
I may be wrong.

It isnt against TOS unless he mentions downloading illegal torrents.

It is probably dropping due to your router, im guessing you have one.

Do you have comcast? Also, are you using a router?

Enable DMZ for your IP address on your network inside your router. If you have a linksys router, it's called DMZ. If you have another brand of router, I dunno but it should be similar.

Howdy,

No offense to the poster, but that is a bad Idea. If you are downloading torrents, people can sniff your IP with ease. If your PC is in the DMZ they basically have free access to your PC as you already have ports open for torrent downloads. Your PC will no longer be protected by the router's firewall. Thats just my opinion.

Routers don't have a firewall. They have a NAT. There's some software that you can use to mask your IP though

Define firewall....if you can set specific rules, access ports, etc, etc then I consider it a firewall. I believe peer guardian is a software you are refering too. I guess my statement was a little too broad. Thanks for pointing that out. But I still think it's a bad idea. JMO. Cheers!!

Thanks for saying that, as I was just about to.

You never want to setup a De-Militarized Zone unless you absolutely need it and know what you are doing... You are essentially giving anyone ~65,000 different ways to get into your computer.

Look around your tracker, see if they have a preferred port, you can also tell some torrent clients what port to listen on (I'm a diehard azureus user)

And btw, i tire of saying this... but torrents are not illegal. Neither is P2P.
I'm seeding Linux distributions 24/7... 17GB of them, I assure you that people use it for good as well as evil
