well, the cell in the PS3 has 6 processing units i think? and it's also clocked at 3.2Ghz so this won't be as powerful as the PS3 but it will be nice for a laptop. I don't think it will be running windows though.

I would say that its going to be a good overall performer and would give Intels Current mobile quads seom stiff competition. This is just me going by the power of Cell in the PS3...even though its cut down it will still be a number crunching beast.

Interesting, since this processor is Cell-like I wonder if this will work together with the GPU for way better graphics processing because the cell processor in the PS3 plays a big role in the FPS of it's game because of the floating.

It's a regular laptop with a Cell for encoding.

It's not running a full PPC Cell as a CPU, it's a coprocessor similar to the SpursEngine they revealed a while ago.

In any case, the Cell is unimpressive. Too slow compared to a GPU, too simple compared to a CPU. It fills a niche noone needs. They'd be better off encoding on the GPU.

I think we should not relate this to the PS3 too much apart from that the architecture of the CPU will be similar. I very much doubt the Cell in the laptop will be linked in such away with the GPU like in the PS3.

I cannot see why Windows would not run on it. Last time I looked it depended alot on the CPU design and ACPI. I think to make a laptop not capable of running Windows would be a bad idea marketing wise. I think Toshiba are not this stupid.

Yeah, Toshiba is a very " Buisness Man" brand. I don't think they would make something and not put Windows on it. Any Lawyer/office manager or business owner usually updates their hardware also if they got the money to and usually stick with the brand that they currently have it they had good service and performance and I can see this laptop being a big purcahse for some people if it's advertised correctly and adequetly.

What OS will it be running?
It's not running the Cell as a CPU, it's a regular Core 2 laptop with a Cell-based coprocessor unit for video playback, encoding, the like.

Your guess is as good as most but I would say Windows Vista natively.
