The fact that they were benching on an Nvidia optimized game and still kicking ass makes them that much more impressive. It would mean more for ATI to beat Nvidia when Nvidia has the advantage (ie optimization).
I really think ATI "pulled it off" with this generation of cards. Even the HD4850 is amazing for a ~$200 price point. It should be setting the stage quite nicely for the 4870 and 4870X2. I think the HD4870 is going to be around the $300 mark when it is released. Right now the HD3870X2 is surprisingly close to GTX260-level performance with AA/AF enabled, so if we assume that a HD4870 will be slightly faster than the X2, we're talking performance between the 260 and 280. So really ATI is going to be able to price this hard a bit higher if they want. Regardless, the 4870X2 is going to be a ridiculous card...
