Lockup probs

Thread Starter
So, lately Ive been getting lockups. The screen will flicker once, and then everything locks up. Ill be able to move my mouse some, but no ctrl+alt+del etc.
Every lockup so far has been during playing WoW (in a window), and surfing the web/IMing etc. The lockups usually happen after a good 2ish hours of playing.

I just built the rig in my sig. Everything is new except the harddrives, all I did was delete and reinstall drivers. I thought maybe it was my CPU, so I ran Prime95, it ran fine for 12+hours. I scanned for artifacts on ATitool, went fine for hours as well. All my temps have been nice and low, and voltages havent variated any.

I have no idea, only things im thinking now is the graphics drivers, or something windows related, or maybe Ram. But, I have no idea how to narrow that down. Any help?

Run multiple instances of Prime95, their a bit single-threaded. For your CPU I would recommend 2 instances.

if you just set up your PC then this is quite interesting, because i am getting the same issue.

i believe it has something to do with the most recent drivers put out by Nvidia, the 175 series. i was having the EXACT same issue with my cards.

i recommend that you remove those drivers. GET OUT OF THE 17X series!

GO here to find the highest driver in the 169 series. this should correct the issue!

if it doesnt, then i think it may be your ram. but i dout this fix wont work

i know the driver is old. you may decide to take a chance and use the beta drivers, 174.74 or others, but i wouldnt recommend it.

and it isnt your processor. many people report this same issue and can still hear the sound int he background. everything is running great, except your video drivers stop responding. i would rule out anything but ram and video cards.

once again, if the fix above doesnt work, then your ram is likely the culprit.

Alrighty, I just installed the 169. drivers. Hopefully this will fix it.

Just in case, what can I use to check my ram? When I ran Prime95 I used two worker threads to cover the 2 cores.

Are there any programs like Prime95 for my ram?

Ok, after a good 5 days, I had another lock up. But, with no sound in the background this time. Come to think of it, most all of the lockups havent had sound in the background =/

So, its my ram then? Are there any programs I can use to test my sticks?
