Woops, darn auctions....

Thread Starter
So, I "accidentally" bought a 1950xtx crossfire setup, and now I'm wondering if my PSU is gonna stand it.. I used that calculator and it came up to something like 468 watts load, for my system. And according to my Powerpanel software from my UPS, my current system is at 222 idle, and about 335 load, so switching my video card for 2 different, potentially more powerful cards, may be testing the limits of my psu. According to the ati site, a 550w psu is recommended for crossfire of these cards, and 38 A of available power, and my PSU Just has 37.6? A of power on the 12v... So will my psu be able to handle these? Should I just throw them in and see if it works fine, or could that be detrimental to my system, if it has a fit and decides to reboot or places to much strain on the psu , Anyways, Thoughts, concerns, suggestions, appreciated

And the psu is coming up on 3 years old, so I'm not sure how durable it still is, thanks

I'd say it's pushing the limits a little bit, and I'd certainly look into a better PSU if you're concerned.

The corsair HX520 is a good, fairly inexpensive PSU that has plenty of amperage (which is really what you should be looking at, not wattage) for the task at hand.

The Ultra X-Finity 600W PSUs are decent. Here's a review: http://jonnyguru.com/modules.php?nam...=Story&reid=23. They aren't amazing but they get the job done. Now, it only has 384W(35A) on the 12V rail which I don't think will be enough for crossfire. 2 1950xtxs will draw about 275W(23A), I'm estimating here so I could be a little off, themselves and add your processor and HDs and you will be putting quite a load on your PSU. I think I would run one now and think about upgrading you PSU to something with at least 45A on the 12V rail.
