Downside to GPU Folding?

Thread Starter
Are there any known bad side effects of running an 8800 @ 100% 24/7 folding? Yesterday I folded 109 WU's and brought my score up almost 5000 points, im thinknig about splitting my SLI up and putting the other 8800 in my old rig to fold on it... But does it hurt the cards?

max temp is ~55C while folding about 24 hours

I wouldn't have thought so if your temperatures are fine.. It would just be like playing Crysis 24/7

The only downside I see is that it consumes quite a bit of power.

Those cards are meant to run in the 90's, and people DO game for days on end, so I wouldn't be worried.

i know that they can run hot, but i like to keep mine around 58-60 and lower, but i know temps are the only factor, then again, they arent vmodded (yet) lol

Because a single 8800GTS 512 is plenty for any game but Crysis...split up and we're talking around 11,000 PPD...thats pretty big points.

109 WUs...*cry*

My quad only does like 2 a day. Granted they're worth 1760 a piece...but still.

Those temps are considered low for those cards, especially in SLI. If they were in the 80's then I would say those temps are fine.

If you were hitting 100c on those cards, then I would say try and get it down a little, so you have quite a bit of breathing room.
