CD's wont play past 1st track, Help.

Hi,
I'm having an issue where My CD's, originals not burned, will only play half of the first track and then skip through the entire disc as if there are only song titles and no music.
This happens using windows media and itunes. I'm using the asus sound card that came with my mobo, sig.
Sound works fine for everything else, my drivers are updated, my optical drive plays games just fine and its drivers are updated too.

I figure it must be a setting thing, but cant find anything that helps. Could this be something i need to change in my BIOS?

Also this is a brand new PC and is the first time i've tried listening to music.I had the "Pros" build this, and I've had to change a few things they didn't do right. Could this be another?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Check the "shuffle" setting in your media player. I had the same issue using Windows Media Player and that was the culprit. On WMP, it's not a very apparent button so it took me awhile to figure it out.

I checked the Shuffle button on windows media player and it didnt change anything unfortunatly.
It's also worth noting that every now and then it will say it cant read my cd because it's dirty, and to try enabling a disc skipping option or something like that. Which i enabled and it still doesnt help.
This has to be some kind of setting issue, or maybe an optical drive issue?
My optical drive is a LG Super multi, i dont have a model number, but it has light scribe and a secur disc feature, so it's fairly new. It is running of a windows driver, and the website for LG says i don't need to download drivers because windows supplies them.

So any other suggestions? Still greatly appreciated.

Oh and Thx to E Dogg for trying

The motor that moves the head along it's track might be damaged somehow.

I had a problem kinda like this, there was a disk that was around 10 years old, from my girlfriend -WOW I FEEL OLD- and i popped it in, burned up to the 13th track, then my entire system locked up, and had to force restart.

i ended up just burning them on my laptop and transfering them via flashdrive.

EDIT: have you installed any games? with disks? playing movies?

I don't think it can be the motor because it runs video games just fine, i can istall anything off of a disc with no problems either.
It's just i cant listen to more than 1/2 of the first track on any CD i own, and i have a few hundred.

any more suggestions is appreciated.

Well it's been some time since i posted this thread and I wanted to keep it alive. Since I'm still unable to get My CD's, store bought, to play for more than a minute on the first track only. it does the same thing using itunes and Windows media Player.

I'm pretty sure this is a settings issue, but can't seem to find it.
I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit, anyone think this may have something to do with it?

Anyone got some settings advice?

Thx for help in advance

Check your default program settings. If you have a second ODD, try using that instead, might work.

I had this problem.

You have a nvidia mobo as well.

You don't have Mediashield installed which comes as an option with the motherboard drivers!

Do a driver reinstall and choose to install mediashield. It should all be fine then.
