Defrag a Raid0 array?

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I'm sure that this question was already asked, but anyways, is it safe to defrag a RAID0 partition knowing that everything is striped equally among the two drives. Is it possible that the defragger puts everything on the same drive which would render RAID0 useless?
Thanks.

Yes, it ought to be safe. As far as the file system is concerned, the array is just a single logical drive, so it suffers from the same logical file fragmentation as single drives. Only the RAID controller 'sees' the individual drives in the array. If the defragger supports RAID array, it should be safe to defrag. I don't have RAID, but my friend uses Diskeeper 2k8 to defrag his 250GB RAID 0 array, and he is happy with it.

Slightly OT:back up regularly! Backing up a RAID 0 becomes even more important than backing up single drives, because with the data spread out over 2 drives, your chances of losing it all has just doubled.
