4450e Overclocking Help?

Thread Starter
hi i'm new to overclocking, i want to overclock my 4450e. i'm just wondering what kind of results i should be expecting, from reading up i've read that the energy effiecent cpu's are good for OC'ing.

here is the spec of my budget pc i have just made....

Asrock AliveNF6P-VSTA AM2,VGA,PCI-E,DDR2,SATA2,Lan,mATX
http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...de=MBA-ALNF6PV

AMD Athlon64 4450e Socket AM2 Dual-Core Processor with Aftermarket HSF

OCZ Gold XTC v2 2048Mb (2x1024Mb) PC2-6400 DDR2 (5-5-5-15)

http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...e=MEO-2048G62K

i'd be grateful for any stats on what i should be aiming for, or any other information i may need.

thanks in advance

Hey, welcome to OCN ( overclock.net), I'm sure that you'll find what you need here, its a great place. If you could fill out your system info so it appears underneath your posts ( in "user CP" on the left side), that way we don't always have to refer to the start of your post to answer questions, that would be much appreciated.
I'd suggest that you read this it should help you get the basic idea down. let us know how its going and we'll see if we can lend a hand.
As far as how far you should be able to push your 4450e... i don't think i've seen one OC'd yet... but its seems as like most X2's are able to get close to or just over 3Ghz with good memory and mobo. This should be interesting.

Good luck.

Welcome mate,

You should be able to put it @3GHz, maybe more, maybe less. Are you sticking with stock cooling? Stock cooling may up to around 2.7-2.8GHz, better air cooling at 3GHz and a better mobo over 3GHz (3.2-3.3).

Keep us posted how it works out,

D.

thanks for the replies guys, i'm just about start the OC'ing now. The only cooling i will have is

CoolerMaster Hyper TX 2
2x 80mm Fans.

the case i have is very old and has hardly any holes for air to escape or new air to come in which i am quite worried about, but i will be changing the case in the future. i'm hoping for 2.7Ghz. I will let you know how i get on.

If airflow in the case is a problem, you can always take off the side panel and put a normal box fan there for short term use.

do you have ANY case fans? if not you can try to custom mount a fan in your case somewhere, if you can only find space to mount one, then I'd suggest mounting it as an exhaust somewhere on the back of the computer.

yes i think i will do that as a temporary solution. one question i need to ask which may be a stupid question but none the less i don't know lol.

the cooler for the cpu i will be buying is CoolerMaster Hyper TX 2, the problem is the dimensions.i have a very small mATX case.

the dimensions are..90 x 44 x 136.5mm (W x H x D) now i only have 110-120mm spare space from my Mobo to the end of the case, but my mate has got the same cooler and a very similar PSU's and he says it come's out exactly the same as his PSU, which has me baffled...?

also is this a good cooler to go for?
i'm willing to spend £15.

this a link to the specs of the cooler:-
http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...ode=HFC-HYPTX2

OC'ing has been moved back to tomorrow now because of this problem. i would just see if his cooler fits in my PC but he lives some distance away.

also i will not attempt to overclock until the cooler, and the 2x 80mm fans are in. i will have no other fans in the PC. So its just the fan from the PSU the Cooler for CPU and 2x80mm fans

From the sound of it you're working with some pretty tight space issues. You might try looking at some "downdraft" coolers, because most of the tower coolers are pretty tall. As for if that cooler is any good... Try this review, and reading some off of newegg cant hurt either. I'm gonna go hunt down a good "downdraft" cooler for you...

EDIT: I have to get to work... I might be able to give you a link to something by around lunchtime... so give me a couple hours.

just to remind you i only have a M-ATX mobo..and a compact case.

This one looks pretty good, although i'm not exactly sure where you could buy it from, plus it might be a little outside of your price range. This one looks decent too, and it should be a little easier to find, just because this brand is a little more common.
Thats all that i could find as of right now (work has been really busy today). try looking around on frostytech.com for the reviews, also try heatsinkfactory.com, frozencpu.com, and newegg.com between those I'm sure that you'll find something that you like thats in your price range (and that'll fit in your case). Plus I'm sure that some people around here will let you know whats worked for them (you could open a new thread in the air cooling forum).
