I have been trying to do some overclocking on my MSI P6N SLI Platinum mobo with my Pentium D 840 extreme edition for a few weeks now.

And thought I would post up my findings so far in hopes that it might save someone the hassle I went through.

1st the CPU features menu there are hiding options that you can access by pressing F4 in that menu

2nd after spending about a week and a half searching around trying to figure out why I couldn't change the cpu multiplier I finally figured it out... (wow i feel dumb)

The FSB for the CPU and the Ram as well as other settings in that area where adjusted by selecting that field then typing in the number you wanted as in you would acctually type "1 0 0 0" for 1000 mhz fsb

Or for the voltage adjustments you would use the arrow keys to change the settings up or down

NEITHER of these options did anything for the multiplier settings, after trying every bios revision on MSI's site.. i finnaly figured out (by accident) its adjusted by the + and - keys....

clearly that setting is very speical and requires having its very own completely unique input method all to it self sharing no commonalities with any of the other settings anywhere in the BIOS.... /smacks head and raises a angry fist at BIOS programers

O well at least its working

before I figured this out I was able to easily get to 3.6ghz on air (my Thermaltake xp-120 doing its thing) with little or no extra voltage on the cpu (i'll get exact numbers later).

Just playing around with it quick, I was able to get 4GHZ 250x16 but I needed more than 1.3something volts. Which might prove to be a bit to much heat for my cooler.

I'll dial it in and see later this week.
