Not if the game sucks.
I know plenty of people that pirated Crysis at launch and pretty much hated it (I'm talking a wide-spread consensus) so when these handful of people bad mouthed the game without paying for it in the first place then THAT caused Crytek to lose sales.
Did Piracy cause them to lose sales? Yes...indirectly.
When it comes down to numbers the Pirates weren't going to be customers in the first place so its just $0.00 anyway you look at it. It didn't hurt their product in any way because the game was already developed, packaged, and shipped and hit the store shelves.
The game itself by a majority vote has far too many Cons than Pros:
-State of the art graphics
-Neat-o weapons and weapon system
-Nice implentation of suit functions
-No system can fully enjoy the state of the art graphics
-Multiplayer is pathetic at best and riddled with hackers
-The AI was promised to be "Revolutionary" but even on the hardest difficulty they're not too hard to beat
-Single Player was a lacking experience...granted there were pretty graphics but the story line was found the be "Meh"
All in all considering how much hype this game had it was a HUGE let-down by hardcore nerds such as myself.
And like I said ... I despise piracy but if you get a hundred people to pirate it and the quality of the game itself sucks word of mouth kills the game through piracy.
Either-way Piracy is bad for business but if they released Crysis on say the Playstation or Xbox the sales numbers (And don't take me literal on this) would probably have been the same.
Why? The game just wasn't that great...
