[FUD] ATI's HD 4800 series can mix with HD 3870 - Page 2

Nice, Means if I could pick up a cheap HD3870, I could CFX it with the HD4850 I'll get...

CrossfireX performs dynamic load balancing IIRC. If you were to put a 3850 and a 3870 in CFX, instead of down clocking the 3870, it makes the 3870 render more parts of the frame than the 3850.

Exactly what I was going to post! +rep. It will make the faster card render more so it makes sure all the cards finish rendering @ the same time. This is where ATI kills nVidia.

Was just about to post this.... beat me by half hour

This is good news as i was thinking of offloading one of my 3870's and getting a 4850/70 when they came out and do just this running cross series crossfire - if ATi officially supports this they will win big with enthusiasts with small pockets - eg me

I'm loving ATI's multi-GPU work. Just bought a 3870 a month or so ago and then details of the 4000 series came out. Might have to grab a 4850 and chuck it in there

Also, I've looked around the interwebs and info is sketchy but is it possible to run Crossfire on an nForce motherboard such as the Gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4.

highly doubt CF will run on a SLI board, but you might bet lucky and find drivers.

haha........

great news ..

about 4 months ago i wanted to cry about the fact i have a CF board
but im soooooo glad i have one now...

4870
3870
in crossfire

that should deliver enough FPS for anything they bring out over the next 2 or 3 years...

Seriously. Way to make ATI look bad with a low score.

That score is pretty damn nice for 1920x1200 with 8x AA.
