Problem with my Core temp

Thread Starter
CPU: e6600 @ 2.4Ghz @ stock speed, and with stock HS
stepping: B2

ambient temps: 32C

Idle:
Tcase: 35C
Tjunction: 45C

Load with Prime95:

Tjunction went up to 80C!!!!!!

I was using Coretemp, and speedfan to monitor the temp.

I am using 4 fans, but even so.. why did it go up to 80C! at stock.

What is wrong??

is it one of the following??
1) I did not mount my HS properly
2) sensor malfunctioned
3) my HS is just bad.

If i do get a new HS, which one do you guys recommend?

hmm, my idle is usually around 40C, im afraid to run prime95. and fill in your system specs under userCP so we can see exactly what you have

Hi and welcome to Overclock.net! Please click here and add your system specs.

What version of CoreTemp are you using and can you provide a screenshot of your load temps (in coretemp) please?

Thank you

I am currently using CoreTemp 0.99.

I cannot provide a screenshot at the moment, since I am reseating my HS right now.

But it was

TjMax : 85C
Core 0: ~44C
Core 1: ~44C

Sorry, I will provide a screenshot tomorrow.

To be honest those temps seem normal given your ambient room temperature.

But how come it went up to 80C when I use prime95's stress test?
The throttling limit is at 85C, and I didnt even OC it yet

Because for one thing you are still using the stock Intel cooler (with the stock thermal paste I assume).which isn't all that great to begin with. Also your ambient temp is high.

Think of it this way: Say that you were able to find a 100% efficient air cooler and you installed it in your system. Even at 100% efficiency the cooler can only cool the chip to the to the temp of the air being sucked into the case (89F or 32C in your case).

Now back to reality no air cooler is 100% efficient therefore you cannot have the CPU match ambient temps on air, it's impossible.

So basically what it boils down to is you have a mediocre cooler, really high ambient temps, and you're stress testing (which generates more heat form the cpu than gaming in most cases) not to mention it's a quad core.

If you get a better cooler and get those ambients lower you will notice a nice temp drop. Even if you dont get a new cooler and just crank the AC down a few degrees you'll notice a difference. I hope this helps
