looking for a decent 26inch monitor

I have no idea about contrast ratio or brightness... what's good or not so good. can anyone help me out?

Also the resolution for 26 inch monitors are the same as 24 but with 1920x1200 that res should look good with a 26 inch monitor, right?

The contrast ratio is the amount of gray colours in between black and white which the monitor can show. A 26 inch monitor won't look as good as a 24 because it's the same resolution but over much more area.

I prefer low brightness (250-300) But remember that you can turn it down in the menu.

I've been a complete Dell convert (for their monitors only) since I picked up a 24" 2405FPW a few years back.

I'm now using the 27" 2707FPW (1920x1200) which works great for me in the dark or in sunlight (early morning if I don't have the blinds down). I got it from PCBuyIt.co.uk, who have an excellent pixel policy (next day replacement if there are any faults at all).

Monitor Size and Type : 27-inch Widescreen LCD Flat Panel Monitor
Resolution : 1920 x 1200 Pixels
Response time / Brightness / Contrast Ratio : 6ms / 450cd/m² / 1000:1

http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/product.asp...+Panel+Monitor

I have no idea how it compares in terms of price/performance with others in the market, but I've got no complaints whatsoever, other than perhaps the amount of heat it pumps out, increasing room temps. (Only noticable if you're sitting right up close, mine is set 2ft back on my desk, so maybe 3ft from my face and I never notice it.)

Not true. If you sit far enough away (i.e. 2-4ft), you can't tell the difference. This is why a 32" 1080p is really no better than a 32" 720p TV from 6ft away. I am currently writing a program to calculate this...
Once again...

You are correct, but it depends on the distance you sit from the monitor.

I'd be very intersted in seeing the results of your code. I wonder what optimal distance is on a 24" monitor.
