Rising temps since lapping CPU & Tuniq.

Hey guys, since I have replaced my Silent Knight II with a Tuniq 120 Tower, I am getting significantly higher temps. I lapped both CPU and my Tuniq a few days ago and used Artic Silver 5 thermal paste.

However, I have changed my fans around now, because the Tuniqs exhaust isn't rearward like my Silent Knight, it's upwards, so I reversed my top 3 fans to exhaust rather than intake, and the reward fan (Fan1) to intake rather than exhaust, seeing as there is nothing to exhaust anymore.

Further more, I installed Thermal Take DuOrbs last week, and as you may well know, they have no exhaust. So the heat is just recycled around the case, since my Tuniq sits on top of the top card, the fan just sucks up all the heat from the top of the card.

I reversed my bottom fan (fan3) from exhaust to intake to keep the air moving from bottom to top.

My temps stock, Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz used to be:
Core 0: 30°c
Core 1: 30°c
Core 2: 30°c
Core 3: 25°c

They are now:
Core 0: 35°c
Core 1: 35°c
Core 2: 35°c
Core 3: 32°c

And this is completely idle, under load I have seen 45°c on some cores. Where as before I didn't see 35°c.

I have also had to take out my 200mm side fan on the Cosmos S because the Tuniq is too large to get the side closed with it on.

Anyone have any ideas how to keep the temps down? I want to overclock the Q6600 (Obviously) but with temps up to 10°c higher than the Silent Knight II with a stock Q6600 I am obviously a bit dubious about it.

I'm almost tempted to take it out and put my Silent Knight II back in and reverse the top 3 fans and the exhaust fan (fan1) to get temps back to normal.

I was excited about installing the Tuniq, but it doesn't seem worth the £35 I payed for it now.

Please explain your lapping method... a botched lapping job can cause seriously negate cooling performance

Also, are you making sure to use a lot less thermal paste? two perfectly lapped surfaces will not need much...

Are the screws also tightened down as far as they can go? You are aware that the Tuniq can be mounted in any direction (including towards the rear exhaust)

how long ago did you lap and mount, TIM does take a few days to do its wonders

Uh yeah, after seeing Adrianspawns TIM application, I may well have gone overboard a little. Using the Coolermaster template.

I know it can be mounted 90° to make it vertical, but I couldn't get it to seat nicely with all the rows of transistors around the socket, the plate would sit on the transistors thus giving a poor contact surface.

My lapping was done with 400, 800 and 1000 sandpaper, lapped for 15 or so strokes each 90° untill flat/smooth on all sides with two grades of paper, and in a figure of eight with both the CPU and heatsink with the 1000 grade to give a nice mirror finish.

maybe I should pull it apart again and re apply the thermal paste?
