Driver support is usually not a huge deal in Linux as long as you don't have an x-fi and are not using wireless internet.

What is the safest way to install this with a Vista x64 dual boot? I have tried like 5 other distros before, seems like I have a hard time with x64 linux and Vista x64 playing nice together...

Back up. That's the safest way. If you lose data and didn't back up, I will laugh.

It should be as easy as letting the partitioner do the work... It should detect the windows partition, resize it, then make a Linux partition and install the boot loader itself.

It's recommended to defragment windows prior to repartitioning for Linux.
