It's a 55nm die shrink. Rumors of tweaks to the chip as well, but I bet it's just a shrink.

Let me get this straight, so it goes from 8800gts > 9800gtx > 9800gtx+? I am willing to bet they will come out with the 9800gx2+.

pretty sure it is just an overclocked card. some of the shady naming conventions should be borderline illegal. they are clearly intended to confuse and mislead the consumer into paying more for less.

but that is capitalism.

Get ready for the details:
  • MSRP: $229
  • Core clock: 738 MHz
  • Shader clock: 1836 MHz
  • 512MB GDDR3 Memory @ ~1000 MHz
  • 2- and 3-Way SLI support
  • 55nm refresh of G92
OC'd, 55nm and a lower price than current G92 9800GTX cards... I'm missing the point where Nvidia is intentionally misleading people in an attempt to get the cosumer to pay more for less(assuming the figures from the article are 100% correct). Capitalism is not to blame if consumers don't spend time researching an investment. Do people simply rush in and a buy a new car, house, boat, ect sight unseen and completely uninformed? If so, they've burned themselves...

(IMHO) @ $229 this thing will cannibalize GTX260 sales. I think this goes to show how powerful a GPU ATI has ATM.
