Well I just looked in the news section and found the 9800GTX will be recieving a price drop to $199 and they will be releasing the 9800GTX+ at $229, The 9800GTX performs on par with the 4850; So the 9800GTX+ should do better than the 4850. Also I would go EVGA so if GTX280 (drastically) prices drop I could pick one up. So what would you guys recomend?

IMO, nVidia is grasping at straws.

you're guaranteed better, more consistent drivers with ATi, not to mention that you can take advantage of that board and crossfire later.

don't fall for their trick

1 ONE bench! The cards aren't available and those benches are usually stock. Its worthless to even ask this when the card is not for sale and no decent amount of people with oc'd systems has their own results yet.

Ding Ding Ding its dinner time fanboys start flaming!

Edit: I see a fanboy slipped in here before I could even get this post off lol

I was telling my brother if the 4870 can beat the 9800GTX (which we had before we sold the whole system on Craigslist) in every benchmark we should get it.

Now it looks like the 4850 can almost do that (and only be a few points behind in a couple of games).

Imagine what a ~20% core speed increase and ~70% memory speed increase (if the 1700MHz GDDR5 is true) will do to top that.

@ Azazel: who? me?

i have an nVidia card and while it's good, i've had poor experiences with drivers, and i personally don't believe in nVidia's bullying strategies (what happened with AC and apparently DX10, for example) nor their underhanded tactics, namely this, and the not-very-clear-to-the-average-joe naming scheme, lack of constant drivers, nor their rehashing and rebranding of cards with basically the same features (8800GTS 512 -> 9800GTX, or if that doesn't work, crockpot (8800GS) -> 9600 GSO, OR 8800GT -> 9800GT)...

ATi have shown me love... am i a fanboy, yes. i'm not as avid as some others though
