9800GTX+ outperformed HD4850 in the majority of games tested

And as I remember there was another review from FiringSquad that was showing the same results

HD4850 - If we stop buying into Nvidias dressed up 8800 gimmicks they'll spend some of their massive profits on making a next gen card

4850 no doubt. This card is amazing for the price.....if you can hold out a few weeks the price should drop even lower than $199....hopefully around $169.

well they are both about the same performance and roughly around the same price. So i would get the 9800gtx just because it looks much nicer IMO.

I'm glad someone else here agrees instead of having a stupid argument over cards that no one even has yet.

Nvidia pisses me off with the no drivers for old cards + the re-branding for 9800 series but I'm waiting to see how the video encoding/physics stuff turns out.

If games actually support the nvidia physics + the gpu transcoding does turn out well, I would happily pay the extra 100 for a gtx 260 over a 4850 if I even need a new card.

IMHO, I will be purchasing a 9800GTX+. The 4850 and 9800GTX+ are about the same price (30$ difference?) and the 9800GTX+ performs very similarly to the 4850, except in one aspect. The 9800GTX+ runs about 15-20C cooler than the 4850 from what I've read in various benchies and what not. IMHO, 30$ is work a 20C drop in temps and it also allows for much more headroom when overclocking comes into play. Just my 2 cents.

^I agree.
From what i've seen teh 4850 runs waaay to hot.
Haven't seen anything with aftermarket coolers or dualslot coolers, so i'm hoping they fare better.

FYI the fireingsquad review was horribly biased. I would wait for more reviews because Ive seen some inconsistency

Even though different systems was used the overall ranking should still be the same right? Look at the 4850 and 3870x2 in the first two reviews and look at the last one with the 9800GTX+ review. Notice how the 8800GTX beats it? Also why are the frames so radically different? Most games are GPU bound.
Plus theres a hotfix out so the benchmarks aren't any good now.

I think for $20 you can pick up an aftermarket cooler and AFAIK they have the same mounting as the 3870s
