EVGA 8800 GTS 640mb Overclock Help

Thread Starter
Hey all!

I am new here.. been reading alot but finally registered now because I have a question I couldn't find..

A) I am getting a new EVGA 640mb 8800GTS for my old BFG 7900GTOC and +100 dollars. Is this a fair trade?

B) When I get it, I want to overclock it. I used to overclock often, but i'm totally outta the loop now and would need some help. I used to use RIVA tuner, dont know what everyone uses now, but if someone would like to point me to a guide, or walk me through it over an instant messenger that would be great.

C) What are the stock over-clock limitations on that card? It would be stock cooler in a full-tower case with 2 x 120mm fans, air duct for the PSU with 90 mm fans (no hot air will come from PSU) and an extra 90 mm to blow hot air outta the top.

Thanks for your time!

I don't really think that is a fair trade considering you can get a 8800GT for < $150 at some places and its about the same or a little bit faster then the old 8800's. Also the 8800gt will overclock better since its a smaller die @ 65nm.

No, it isn't a fair trade. You could sell your 7900GT and with the $100 you could get an 8800GT. People still use Rivatuner. I wouldn't know what the max overclock on those would be on stock volts.

agreed not a good deal at all, sell your 7900GTOC and buy an 8800GT 512.

Where can I get that for $100? The cheapest i've seen was www.ncix.com and that was $150 after MIR + taxes + shipping?

eBay is also high.

Probably should've mentioned this in my previous post but anyways, I got my evga 8800gts 640mb to 600/900 up from 500/800 with stock volts no problems. Gave me around a 10-15% boost. He means sell your 7900 for $100 then use the $100 you were going to give to the guy to buy an 8800gt.

If its the 8800GTS 640mb with 112 shader processors (standard one only has 96sp) its a fair deal, that version is comparable to the 8800GT at lower resolutions and a bit faster at higher resolutions.
That 7900 is worth at least $75.

So you're paying $175 for a card that can be bested by a $140 card... Right.

Here are two good 8800GT deals. On one you have to add it to the cart to get the instant rebate.

No, I highly doubt that. I've seen enough to say the 8800GT is faster, period. Also the 8800GT has 112sp...

I just emailed him back stating that my Card is worth $75.. and that i'd give him $130 for his 8800GTS without my card.

I had totally forgot about that version. If that is the case then yes, it would be a good deal. The 112sp version came out right before the 8800GT so whoever you are trading with bought it after that time chances are he has a 112sp version.
