Vista vs XP on new rig?

Thread Starter
Well, I'm into computers, I work in Networking, I do plan to look around what Vista looks like eventually, but I really, really love XP, it's stability, speed, and the such.

On my rig, seen below, I use mainly XP to do gaming, and whatnot, and if I don't plan to game I boot on my linux. Why should I get Vista, aside from it looking "pretty"? (I'm the kind that disables un-needed services, graphical stuff and the such)

Vista is much more stable than XP, there are other tings such as drivers being moved further from the hardware (more stability), x64 reduces remote attacks by 90% (supposedly is higher), tons of other reasons.

With the exception of the price of the Vista, possible compatibility issues with smaller and older programs, or a junky old Pentium 3, I really cannot think of a reason not to go Vista.

FYI I can run it great on a 3.0 ghz Pentium 4, 1 gb of RAM, and an FX5200.

hmm well a few days ago i would have said vista all the way, but i went back to xp last night, and my computer is a billion times faster it seems like. your 4 gigs is plenty for vista.. maybe the reason i didnt like it was because i have 2gb of ram???

Seeing as Vista is a ram hog (Uses 1+ gig its self) its best to have at least 4 gigs if your going to use it.

Go be...'uneducated' somewhere else. It uses it all for a reason.
Oh and it only uses 1+ if you have 4 anyways.

I am running it great on 1gb.

Vista scales with the amount of memory you have, if you have 1 gb it won't use more than x amount, if you have 2 gb it might be twice what it would use compared to 1gb.

Either way, it is RAM you are not using, and have no need for. Fire up a game and Vista will deallocate its self to under 400 mb.

Ive been running Vista x64 since it was available at Retail. Its been great since then, plus the new updates and stability, its even better. But, recently ive been having some issues with it. It seems as if its starting to choke. I havent done anything else since ive built my rig, almost like its starting to self destruct. I have 2 other Vista machines and my friend has one as well. All of them are starting to act up. Even my friends Toshiba laptop with Vista Ultimate. I dont know what it is, but it might be a bug somewhere.

my vista always runs as good as the day it was installed, as long as you do some maintenance here and there you should be fine
