Can I use a 6 pin to 8 pin connector to power a 9800 gx2?

Hey guys,

I just bought an OCZ GameXStream 1010 Watt power supply.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...720&CatId=2535

I bought it before I knew what graphics card I wanted and I decided on a 9800 gx2 and bought it. Unfortunately, I didn't look close enough and what I thought was an 8 pin PCI-E connector was actually the motherboard 8 pin connector.

My problem now is whether or not to return it (and incur a 15% restocking fee) or to buy a 6 pin to 8 pin PCI-E connector. EVGA does not recommend this and I'm worried that the 9800 gx2 won't get enough power from basically 2 6-pin connectors. What do you guys think? Is anyone here running this setup?

I really don't want to go through the hassle of returning the PSU.

You sure you don't have one? I have a OCZ GameXstream 700W PSU and I have two PCIE plugs with 6 pins, but one of them also has a 2 pin on the side for those 8 pin gpus.. Kind of like the 20+4 connect for the motherboards.

Thanks for the responses. I'm at work now but I can check when I get back. Actually haven't opened it up since the 9800gx2 just arrived today. From online resource though, it looks like the answer will be "no". Rep + tho

Just got home and checked the PSU. You were 100% correct smm298, it was some type of 6+2 configuration. I love how nowhere on any site could I find that info. Well, I am extremely happy now.....this'll be setup tonight and I should be gaming soon. Again, thanks for all your help.
