Help picking a liquid cooling setup - Page 2

Why would you be worrying about the pressure drop with a Swiftech rad? I thought they had the lowest?

A radiator is essential, even if you just use voltmodded 38mm thick fans, or 25mm thick ones, even a little air flow makes a big difference.

For silent fans the swiftech line of radiators might work quite well, considering they were designed for low RPM, low pressure fans.

Putting a rad in your fridge will not work. The compressor will fail in a short amount of time. A fridge is designed to initially remove heat from the cavity and transfer it to the outside. After this it just maintains the temperature. It is not designed to handle a constant heat load. Thermodynamics class ftw!

Then throw out the frig idea. I want to put a rad some where on my computer (inside or outside) but i dont know the best place to put it. If i get a 2x120mm rad i can put it on the bottom of my case but i dont what rad to use with what fans. Anything bigger i have to put it on the outside but i dont know what is my best option. I need some help deciding please and thanl you.

For a smaller rad I would suggest this one GTX240 IMO that is more than enough to cool an E8400 with some Scythe Ultra 2000s. If you want a better radiator the GTX360 is a great one. I would not mount that internally as you will be blowing hot air into your NB chip and if the 790 is like the 750 it is hot enough.

I would use this to mount the radiator extrenally behind the 120mm fan out back. Use some plastic to deflect the air out of the case so it doesn't go into the rad.

Hope that is a good starting point for you. If you can look at some of Ira-k's post on how to clean and set up water. GL.

I would go with the GTX 360. especially if you will be cooling the GPU as well. Place it outside the case, perhaps mount it on top. You might be able to use a mount similar to this: http://www.sharkacomputers.com/aqcoradomo.html
but not sure...

And I personally I think a push-pull config on the fans is the way to go. You could always add shrouds later. See Irs-K's ideas for fan shrouds, they'll save you some bucks!
And use a controller with the fans. If u use this set-up on the outside it will not be silent, but with a controller u can turn the fans down some. Just test to find the optimum speed vs. cooling.
