8800gt sli crashing system in cod4

Thread Starter
i just picked up another PNY 8800gt today, after playing cod4 for about 10 minutes, when running sli it crashes my whole system. I figured it was because i was running the cards at 700/1750/1000. But this is not the case seeing how it crashes when they are running stock 600/1500/900. So i checked the temps of the cards both stay around 72c under load. Could this be a 750i sli bug??
thanks for all your help

Could be a driver issue as well.
Im getting the same problem! I just bought Vista Ultimate 64 and installed it today and when i hopped into a game of COD4 my display drivers failed. Once i turned SLi off everything was fine. So im guessing its a driver issue. I have the latest 175.19 driver so im gonna revert back to some of the older ones.

And it must not be happening with just the 750i motherboard because mines doing it on a 680i LT.

Im not getting a crash really. My screen goes blank for 5 seconds and says no signal display, then comes back on and lets me play. Its just frustrating that it would even do this to begin with though.

I have a buddy with the same problem, With SLi enabled for COD4, he crashes. With it Single GPU it DONT crash. Has to be a COD4 Bug with the 8 Series. My 9800GX2 does not have this problem, but then again, its only 1 Slot, and not 2.. Could be a error with COD4 not reading the second PCI-E slot.

I've had the odd problem in COD4 with my sli setup as well. It also happens a lot in Company of Heroes, but I know for a fact that's due to shoddy coding.
I've gone through a few sets of drivers. Was running the 169.25 WQHL before and CoH didn't like them at all, once I installed the 175.16 WQHL CoH remained stable for much longer. I haven't tried the latest WQHL's (177 something?) as I figure they're probably geared more for the latest cards (unless someone can prove me wrong).

In regards to your problems, I'd make sure you've got the latest Nforce chipset drivers (I think it's 9.64) and make sure you're sli setup is running on a fresh set of drivers.

from googleing around i found out that it is the drivers.... right now there is no sure way to get it to stop completely. but lots of people have found that this problem really start to flare up when one of the gpus gets over 75c. in some cases the 169.25 drivers work for people, others it has not.

Yeah since swithcing to 17*.** drivers COD4 has gone crazy on me

I like the new interface though, and image quality is alot better, however system doesn't work well with my current setup of drivers so I might drop back to 169's as well
