The drivers will mature for the 280 and will surpass the gx2 by a decent amount more. That and it's a single card solution. No quad crap to deal with. Gives your a great option to sli another when/if you choose.

With an X48 board, why not go with an HD4870 or even better, a pair of HD4850's in Xfire. The 4850's will be faster than either card you are looking at.

I'm going to have to agree. If you already have a CF compatible board, then 2 4870's would have been the way to go.

Sorry i have vanished off for a will . I had the dam ****y Nvidia ppl to thank for. It turns out that my brand new GTX 280 that i bought was faulty. thanks to my luck i bought it out on holidays so i had to send it all the way back agian. and this time rather took a refund then spending the air charges all the way back agian.

Dam XFX didnt even work:swearing::swearing::swearing::swearing::swear ing:
Brand new card :swearing::swearing::swearing::swearing:

So now the question is ....get the new 280 or get the 4780 x2_

GTX280 vs HD4870

IMO, the GTX280 isn't as good as the money you spend on it. Go for a HD4870, and later on maybe add another. The benchmarks above show that it isnt lower by much at all in 3DMark06.

But then again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
