CPU Cooler for Q6600 (overclocking) - Page 2

Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme works great at holding temps down while under load.. I have also used the Zalman 9700 with good results. I only found about a 3-4c drop at load with the 120 over the 9700 both lapped.

TRUE, but not with the Tricool, I have that one, get the Ultra Kaze 2000, you can't go wrong. 2000rpm is just enough to get maxed out performance without being hard on the noise. Works wonders on keeping those load temps sloowly rising instead of all of a sudden.

Ok so what you are saying is that the Antec Tricool fan is not an option to put on the thermalright heatsink?

I couldn't find the Ultra Kaze 2000 on newegg but i found this fan instead.

Would this work? The airflow and the noise level are amazing.

With a Q6600 B3 i couldn't get much further than 3.0Ghz due to temps, i'll be testing my G0 stepping tomorrow see how that goes. It's only a temporary CPU until the better 45nm appear.

I wouldn't say that Zalmans are bad for quads at all. I use a 9700 Zalman with great results. My 24/7 OC is at 3.4 GHz and my max load temps in Prime95 with small FFTs only reach ~55C. Idle is ~42C

My benchmark OC is at 3.6 GHz @1.425V and my load temps reach ~63C. Idle is ~44C

Wow. All of these setups sound really good and provide good temps.

Ok, i have made a decision to go with the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme. I also want to get a fan that will go with it.

Any fan suggestions?

Those fans are really only for intake and exhaust, on a TRUE what you want is a 38mm-thick fan to really push that air through the fins. Ideally, the Ultra Kazes are the best noise/cfm ratio at a good price, but if you can't find it, then theres the 86-87cfm Panaflo, 114cfm panaflo, 84cfm Delta, and Sanyo-Denkis.

I see what you are saying. I really wasn't paying attention to see if it was intake and exhaust.

The true meaning for the heatsink fan is to help push the hot air from the cpu. I was definitely not taking that into consideration. Thank you for putting that back in my mind lol.

Edit: I was looking at sidewindercomputers.com and i saw the fans you listed. I think i am going to go with the 86-87 CFM Panafolo. 35dba isn't that loud considering the air flow of the fan is 86-87 CFM.

That should do pretty good, I have my 133cfm (3000rpm) undervolted to about 1600rpm (roughly 80cfm) and only get 2C higher temps.
