No one is noticing the $30 rebate from ASUS?

First the rumor was that R700 would have 480 Stream processors, which doesn't make since(Stream processor:TMU ratio would be different). It turns out AMD planted that rumor and surprised everyone with the 800 Stream processor count. The words Stream processor and Shader Processor are interchanged a lot but with ATi cards they are 2 very different things.
I've been lied to all my life... Wait, R600 had 320SPs, 64 groups of 5 SPs in which 4 were capable of mathematical calculations and the 5th was universal, then the 480SPs would have been 96 groups of 5 SPs that are identical to those in R600. ATI uses the RingBus architecuter, so I'm very confused.

EDIT: Your explanation must be inaccurate because the shader core and core clock are different speeds now.

Eh, its OK
Reviewed By: Bobby D on 6/19/2008 Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: Its an OK card, nothing special.
Cons: Old tech. I would rather have a 8800GT from the other guys. Cheaper and same performance
Other Thoughts: Nice try, but no cigar. I am already selling it to get a GT. I had my hopes up for this series, but it looks like AMD loses again :/
Geez.

The thing about the 480SP number is that the Stream processor:TMU ratio would be crazy. The Rv770 has 160 Shader:40 TMU or 4:1 ratio along the lines with Rv670 64 Shader:16 TMU ratio.
And sorry but core and stream processor clock is still the same. That kind of change is huge and would probably call for an entirely different or heavily modified architecture.

RV770 has 32 TMUs... And yes, the shader clock is now independent of the core clock. AMD LIEZ
