Vista 32 bit vs. 64 bit - Suggestions

Thread Starter
I am deciding on whether to purchase the 32 or 64 bit versions of Windows Vista Ultimate. I plan on doing alot of programming and game development on this computer. I plan on using alot of Adobe products as well as 3D rendering and other things that I will use to design games. So if anyone could make a suggestion of whether going 64 bit is right for me or not will be appreciated. Thanks!

which version supports all the apps you will be using?

i vote for 64bit and anything besides ultimate. ultamate just has more media stuff added, but if you are like the morjority of people use other programs instead of what ms offer.

Yep 64 bit is great, and given your workload, you are going to want 4gb of ram, and only a 64 bit OS can use that much.

Now think about whether or not you want Ultimate. I found it cluttered and settled for Home Basic (still gives me things like superfetch, DX10) But to each his own.

yes 64 bit would be good but you may need a lot of ram since vista 64 bit eats ram like crazy...

I'm leaning towards 64 bit, I was going to go with Windows Vista Business, but I do watch alot of anime fansubs, so the media stuff is probably needed. 64 bit seems like a good choice for those wanting the safest possible computer, but is there any good 64-bit security suites and back-up software?

- I've been looking at kaspersky, so I may decide upon the two.
- Does it allow backing up on a separate external drive via eSATA? (I haven't used Windows in ages, Mac at the moment)
- VLC player is all I use for anime.

To be honest, the key you get can be used for either the 32 or the 64 bit version. So if you get 64 and decide to go to 32, it's all good.
