EDIT: Working on finding three so you can divorce your wife and burn your place down, h/o. I do think you'll agree that even though the HD4870 does not have reviews, the HD4850 whooping Nvidia should be sufficient.
I said reviews on the 4870, not the 4850.

This is true. However, the HD4870 will be at the very least equal to the HD4850, although probably 10-20% faster. But if you want to scapegoat on technicalities, ok.

Let's just keep it at "ATI beats nVidia, in the mid-range. Sometimes". Either way, it doesn't matter if ATI's best might beat a 9800 GTX (in speculation, and based on some reviews that came from some forum based in Siberia), it's also the fact that just about all of the 9-series cards are rehashes of the G92, including the GX2, so when ATI comes close, nVidia just grabs their current stuff and adds a little to it.

Yeah, I totally understand the 13k in 3DMark06 with the $200 4850 vs the cheap $140 9600 GT getting 12.5k. Definitely worth the extra $60, in my opinion. Price/performance at its best.

I guess you're right if you only buy mid-range cards to benchmark...

Most of us play games with those cards. For example:

A good price/performance example. The GTX280 for only $650 gives you a lot of performance. However the $200 HD4850 gives you 85% of that performance for $450 less. With the savings you could buy an X38/48 and a second card. You'd still save money, and you'd destroy the GTX280.

I think your original point was that the HD4850 can't even beat Nvidia's last gen offerings. I see the HD4850 beating Nvidia's old crap in just about every way...

I think OCN should create a 'Nvidia/ATI War Room' where people can bash each other!

But the majority are right here. The 4850 beats out the 8800GT quite convincingly and I'm sure given a few driver releases that will the difference will increase. Hell, the 4850 even beats out a 9800GTX in most benches.

Right now the only reason to buy a 260/280GTX is if you have money to burn. I personally wouldn't like to spend 600 dollars on a single card when a 400 dollars Xfire setup would beat it.

Not being a fanboy at all...just stating the obvious

The 4850 has JUST BEEN RELEASED and its at an amazing price

The 9600 GT has been out for ages

Of course its going to be cheaper

The 4850 destroys the 9600GT, 8800GT, 8800GTX, 9800GTX - It is pure win for $200

Like what moots said - near GTX 260 performance [$650] for $200 - that is awesome
