If you run two cards with 1GB each in Crossfire how much space do you have for textures?

2GBs right? No 1GB. So the people getting two cards for highres gaming will be better off with 1GB cards than 512MB cards.

What does that have to do with anything? I'm pretty sure he's referring to the bus width.

No he's talking about that if someone is doing crossfire, the amount of ram is not gonna double as a result. Like if you get two cards and each has 512MB ram, crossfire is still only gonna use 512mb in total. BUT!!! If you use crossfire, the games that support it need more memory as a result so thats why if you are going to do crossfire you need the most amount of memory you can get for each card so that when you use crossfire the memory used in total is enough for the game. Basically if you use one card with 512mb thats enough but if you crossfire you need more memory but crossfire doesnt give you more memory so you need each card to have 1GB to be able to nicely run the game. It's simple really just take some time to think about it.

Yeah CF doesn't double your memory as has been explained. So a 1GB card may be useful.

Yes 1Gb helps when in Crossfire......with a single card this would most likely (not for sure though at higher res with AA/AF) be overkill.
Interesting that they didn't go with the GDDR4 for lower power consumption.....I guess that would have inflated the cost too much.

And again, I must ask why you automatically think he was talking about Crossfire when Crossfire was not mentioned in any way, and I don't see it written anywhere that this GPU SKU is only for Crossfire. Many people think that bus width limits the amount of RAM useable by the graphics card when that is not the case. In fact, all of your posts suggest that the 1GB of memory is useful when it is in Crossfire furthers this misconception by implying that this card is specifically for that. It doesn't make sense for him to have been talking about Crossfire anyway, and even if he were, Modki's original post was still confusingly written.

I am only saying that because they were talking about how 1GB is overkill but its not when it comes to crossfire (especially at high resolutions). Thats all I'm saying. And with all that I was explaining why that is. I was explaining that because they were confused about what the guy was talking about when it comes to crossfire and memory use.

No. High-end games like Crysis and World in Conflict (and I'm sure others) have been shown to use ~700MB - 800MB of VRAM @ 1900x1200 (standard for a 24" LCD). They'll need even more at higher resolutions.
