it must be a really early version of 8.7 that or a like 8.59 which they sometimes do (hotfix the previous driver). More than likely it's like 8.61

Haven't played any games yet, but it looks like it fixed the clock speeds in CCC. No temp changes, though.

ATI has divided their midrange division. The lower half is the HD4850, the upper half is the HD4870. R700 is reserved for "Enthusiasts" Although the 4850 may not seem like a low-midrange card, it is.

HD4850 Mid-range

HD4870 High End

HD4870X2 Enthusiast

So all in all, yes it is mid-range.

The 4870 does not beat the 4850 by that much of a margin to call it a high-end and the 50 a midrange.

High-end is defined as 450-300 in most people minds. Yes the 4870 is MSRPing for 299, but it will likely drop soon afterward.
